Hi thank you for your time < I am coming to Honolulu with my Scanner
to spend Some green cash , And have been told too story about
Honolulu Fire are they in the clear or Encrypted

They are using ProVoice on the EDACS system. The only way to listen is to bring a ProVoice capable radio and program it for RX only or to use DSD with another scanner and computer running Linux.

Not going to be much Public Safety wise to listen to. Police, Fire and EMS are all ProVoice.

Honolulu Fire Dept Dispatch Tones are in the clear, however, the actual voice transmissions for dispatch are encrypted with Pro Voice. In addition, the Fire Tactical Channels are encrypted. EMS, Ocean Safety and Emergency Management are in the clear, and in addition, EMS is still being simulcasted on UHF.

Bottom line, you will need a scanner capable of listening to EDACS 800 Mhz narrowband to listen to HFD tones only, EMS and Ocean Safety. Unable to listen to HPD, HFD tactical and DIspatch Voice transmissions.
