hook up on scanner

I have a pro-197 and a pro-163 can I hook these straight to the hot and negative post on a 12 volt battery or will this fry the scanners. all I have in my ham shack are car battries?

Power supply:13.8 VDC (Barrel connector)

so as long as you get the polarity correct, yes.

They both appear to be designed for mobile use, do you have the 12V DC cables for them?

Both the PRO-163 and PRO-197 require 12-13.8vdc @ at 600 mA with the center pin positive according to the manuals. I would think that a 2 amp fuse would be sufficient. The Radio Shack wall wart that came with my PRO-197 is rated 13.8vdc @ 600 mA.
