hook up on scanner

I have a pro-197 and a pro-163 can I hook these straight to the hot and negative post on a 12 volt battery or will this fry the scanners. all I have in my ham shack are car battries?

so as long as you get the polarity correct, yes.

They both appear to be designed for mobile use, do you have the 12V DC cables for them?

The only thing I would do is look at the Current Draw for each Scanner and say that is 2 amps I would fuse each at 3 amps.

Both the PRO-163 and PRO-197 require 12-13.8vdc @ at 600 mA with the center pin positive according to the manuals. I would think that a 2 amp fuse would be sufficient. The Radio Shack wall wart that came with my PRO-197 is rated 13.8vdc @ 600 mA.

Then I would do 2 1 amp fuses 1 to each scanner. I was just using numbers as an example.
