When you have a building involved in fire, the address side is referred to as Side A or Side "Alpha". Going clockwise, the left side is "Bravo," the back is "Charlie," and the right side is "Delta."

Buildings, cars, or other objects that are immediately threatened by the fire are called exposures. Therefore, a Bravo Exposure would generally another building very close to the left side of the building consumed in fire.

Personnel Accountability Report. It tells Command that you have all of your folks with you, and that your crew has not become seperated from one another.

Let me know if there is anything else...

I hope this isn't off topic. Do they allow visitors to the Virginia Beach dispatch center? I think it would be neat to see how people that get "paid to listen to the radio" operate.

I can't speak for VB, but I know the comm center I used to work at, and the one that my wife still works at, will give tours on a pre-arranged basis. Call the PD and see if you can get a phone number for the comm center administration.

They let the EMS Volunteers go up. I've been up there. It can be a very busy place. They are building a brand new for them right across the street, should be pretty neat.

The Norfolk fire that you were talking about was a 2 alarmer. Pretty cool.

Several years back I was in a tour of the VB comm center as a member of VB ARES. There is an ARES room in a back corner of the center with HF/VHF/UHF gear. If you can get a small group together it's worthwhile.

Boxalarm, what does "You got a green roof" mean? I heard that on the scanner from command. They told a ladder truck to go on the bravo side and they had a green roof to spray water?

Hmmm...that is a new term to me. However, these would be my guess:

1. They had a "green light" to spray water on that part of the effected structure.

2. The building itself had a "green roof," something that is becoming more popular across the U.S. These are roofs that are covered with plants & vegitation, in order to help replace some of the natural vegitation that was destroyed when the building was built.

I know folks in all of the Tidewater FD's, which department said this? I'll ask around for you for a definate answer...

I believe NavyCop is referring to a "Green Top". That's what Norfolk refers to as the hydrants (because they have green tops).
