I pick up everybody else ems, dps, dnr, but have not heard the sheriffs at all, i heard ems and the dnr all the way out to the gilmer career center, thats a ways from me and we do have a deputy for my area. I am towards the southern part of the co.

And Thanks Mike sd104 for the help on programming.

Thanks in advance, i been pretty busy lately.

Maybe there isn't much activity when you are scanning(I have lots of quiet time between fayette county police/sheriff/county fuzz transmissions),so since you are in a more rural way,you might hardly get stuff, just keep on listening.

I believe Calhoun Control simulcasts just about everything going out, so if any county units are working, you should have at least heard Control calling for them. DPS, county and city pd all use the same low band frequency, but it is conventional, not a repeater.

Anytime. Looking at the RRDB, the Sheriff's Office shares dispatch for EMS and Fire on 453.9250 MHz and 460.3625 MHz. Have you tried programming them in without the PL? Could be they have different PLs from what's in the RRDB.

Also, how many deputies are in your county? If there is only a few, they may use Nextels or cellphones.

Calhoun Control

I remember several months back going down I-79 to Charleston and hearing them on 39.9000 and 453.9250. By listening it sounds like they use the same frequency for law and fire both. I even caught them one day sitting in Summersville (I was mobile) on 39.9800. But at that time it was simulcast with 39.9000. I haven't heard any activity from them in a while, though. I can't hear them from the house but I can hear them when mobile.

Just heard Calhoun Control requesting County Unit 4 on VHF high, 155.205.

From what I have heard, just about everything is simulcast from control. Only EMS units use the repeater though.

I have all those freq. programmed in with the pl's from the database, still don'nt understand why i can hear dps units talking to calhoun control and not the deputys??

I did a little research in the county paper (Hur Herald) and found out that when they put up the new tower back in 2004 the county also purchased 6 new mobile dual band radios with repeaters for the sheriffs dept. along with 6 portable radios. I also remember reading a ways back that the 911 director was talking about adding 2 new trunk lines.

Maybe this info can help you guys explain why i can'nt hear the sheriffs, seems like when control calls out for a county unit 453.9250 comes up but i don'nt hear nothing. I don;nt think its a distance or terrian problem becuase i heard a dps unit talking to control about woman wanting a protection order and that was just outside of granstville, matter of fact control called for a county unit to assist and he responde3d but i did'nt hear him only the trooper.

County 4 works my area but i can only hear control not the deputy, there was a 2 car wreck not far from me last night and county 4 responded but again all i heard was control.

Thanks and maybe my research will help.

Here, there and everywhere in WV
calhoun county

If you are hearing dispatch (aka control) on 453.9250. Then program in 458.9250, this is the repeater input frequency that the mobile units should be transmitting to the dispatch/control center on.

Also try 465.3625 which listed in the RR Calhoun database as the North tower frequencies mobile input.

If you have the above frequencies programmed in already and still only hear one sided conversations get rid of the PL's you have programmed in and set the PL setting on your scanner to CSQ or carrier squelch.

This statement most likely reflects the number of telephone trunk lines coming into the 911 center, it should not have anything to do with radios.
