How do I program a truck database?

I'm new to scanning trucked systems and it doesn't make alot of sense to me. I will be purchasing a PRO-96 and will need to program it for systems local to Harford County, Maryland. Is there something I can read to learn how to do this and/or is there an existing file that I will be able to DL?

Uh, the manual.

Anyways, here's what you do. Do as the manual says by setting the scanner to MOTOROLA mode when you program the trunking system. When you get to the part where the manual says to enter the frequencies, enter the frequencies shown in RED and BLUE on the following link: http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=2846



You should be good to go after you do that. Just follow the manual step by step, and you should be fine.

Colin, save yourself a lot of frustration buy the cable and software shown on www.starrsoft.com it will be the best money you will ever spend. I wouldn't even think about programing by hand.

If you're at all interested in finding out how your scanner actually works then I WOULD think about programming it manually. When I got my first trunk tracking scanner I knew absolutely nothing about trunked systems or how to program them. My first attempt at programming a trunked system was a challenge. I read the manual, asked questions, called Uniden Customer Service (It was on a BC785D), made some errors along the way, but finally got it working. Not only did I learn how to program them, but also how my scanner operates. I'm not knocking software, but I just find that you can learn a lot more by doing it manually. Just my nickle's worth. :lol:

I completely agree with DJ88. Learn how the scanner works and how to set it up manually. You don't have to program the biggest, most complex system by hand. By all means get the cable and software if you like, but there may be times when you may not have access to your computer (when travelling for example) and need to program something. You'll be glad you did!

I agree the software is great but still learn to do it by hand. I have had my radio with me on calls and was able to put in need things from other departments that I didn't have and my lap top was at home or the station. You can always download and "clean" it up with the software later. also my 2096 trucks in the '04 F-150 Supercrew real nice!
