I have somehow gotten on some persons SPAM email list.........and I am getting 15-20 emails a day! Now, this is the ONLY entity I get SPAM from, but it is very irritating. Now here is my problem, this SPAMMER uses multiple website, and multiple email addresses, but they all conform to a certain set-up. Here is an example of a couple......

contact-20600@michelsonyellowncs.com

contact-1952@maxwellicterine.com

contact-7730@ludwigmediumblue.com

Now, they all start with "contact-", and every domain name is several random words. A few months ago they were random adverbs followed by random animal species. Each email address is different, but as you can see, they can create an unlimited amout of unique email addresses this way. How can I block anything containing "contact-" in Hotmail, the email service that is being affected. I am at a loss.

I use Thunderbird .. and it allows me to specify the criteria as needed to filter out these types of emails. I have about 12 filters and I find that very rarely do I get any junk emails.

You can also get the program to "learn" from any emails that you specify as junk and it will learn over time what emails are spam.

You can get it here: Mozilla Thunderbird

I personally ditched Hotmail a number of years ago as I found that it just wasn't anything but a spam magnet. So .. I would seriously consider getting a new address .. maybe a gmail account would be better.

Edit ... I checked in Thunderbird and you can specify an email filter where the "from" could be set to filter out any that "start with" contact.

I don't know what sort of anti-spam tools Hotmail has, but you're probably down to just a few choices.

1. Learn how to use whatever anti-spam tools that Hotmail may have.
2. Close that hotmail account and open a new one.
3. Use your ISP's e-mail server and use an e-mail client like Thunderbird.

Even Yahoo has the ability to presort e-mail based on keywords in either the subject or content. My ISP (Verizon) does too, so I can block things at the server, and never download it to my e-mail client. Whaat little does get through, Thunderbirt handles very effectively. I see, maybe, one spam message per month get through and land in my in-box. And that one generates a few new rules.

Do these recommendations work with my current Hotmail email address? I have had this email for years, and like I said, I only get SPAM from this one stupid source. Fortunately, they all end up in my SPAM folder, but deleting them daily is just annoying. :p

From what I have read .. you can use Thunderbird for your Hotmail account. I looked on Wikipedia and it appeared to indicate that you could setup a 3rd party email client for Hotmail. I would download it . . configure it and then setup your email filter.

The only thing I hate with Hotmail .. is that as far as I know, there is no one you can call when you need help. But you should find what you need online as there are millions of Hotmail users and I am sure that you are not the first to want to use a 3rd party email client.

Remember as I was told recently when I was dealing with computer issues, "google is your friend".

If your spam filters are well behaved, maybe you can just set to delete the contents of the folder daily, and just never look there.

Wirelessly posted (Moto Droid Bionic: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_3; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.16 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0 Safari/533.16)

If those contact messages wind up in the spam folder, that should be dumped periodically by Hotmail. Usually the automatic deletion content of trash and spam folders is stuff more than 30 days old. HTH.

THANK YOU! I was assuming they were all different IP's like how they all have different domain names!

When I added the IP to my block list, it shows up as @91.225.63.53, is that OK?

I think we need to know what you're using to read your mail........are you using the Hotmail Webmail program, or using a POP client such as Outlook Express or Thunderbird?

If you're using the Webmail program, I would assume that following the instructions on the link I gave would work.....If not, try removing the "@" symbol.
