• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

How long does it take?

I saw an old website forum post that said GMRS licenses were issued within a couple of hours. Is that still the case these days? I submitted mine over the weekend and paid the $70 fee. The application shows that it went in effect on 1/31.

You can go here How To Obtain Official Authorizations from ULS log in with your FRN number and password that you used to apply.

You will see your call sign near the top of the page. In the green area under My Licenses, you can download your license authorization which will enable you to print out the license itself, they no longer mail them out.

I'm not sure the point of your reply Chris. I know how ULS works and been using it for years. I'm asking how long it takes to receive a GMRS callsign from the FCC. I read it was a few hours and it has been a few days for me. Not a big deal but just curious how long it takes these days.

For me it was the day after the payment was marked as paid. Could be different now based on down time and any work they are doing on the system.

I thought you edited your post at the end, once you found that it went into effect. I received my GMRS license within 24 hours in 2017. A buddy had his within 24 hours and applied in 2021.

No, I didn't mean that -- I meant that I created the GMRS application and paid the fee on like 1/29. The ULS system didn't process till 1/31 so it showed that application was received, etc.

On a side note, my ham license was renewed in < 24 hours. I got an email saying it was good to go. I thought the GMRS would be as fast.

I may have to email someone I guess and find out what's going on. I know the charge went thru on my CC so they got their payment.

GMRS - We each did ours during a weekday and probably why the quick turnaround. Weird that yours wasn't approved on 1/31 after the payment was processed.

Amateur Renewal - Thanks for that. My renewal is later this year.

I thought Chris was trying to be quite helpful.

I never said he wasn't. I said I didn't understand the point of his reply as I was asking a completely different question.

I decided to register so that my first reply would be one of solidarity... I, too, submitted and paid for my application over the weekend and it didn't show any activity until 1/31 (understandable), but nothing showed up in ULS until today (currently Pending). The Payment Confirm action didn't occur until sometime today 2/3. So, I guess they're just plucking along.

Hoping to have my GMRS call sign tomorrow. I have a buddy of mine in Covington, WA (I'm in Puyallup, WA) that I've been able to hear from my HT radio over the Tiger repeater. I can't wait to be able to test in the other direction. :)

Hmm I think someone from the FCC reads this forum. I just got my license last night.

Excellent! I was hitting the Tiger repeater and successfully communicated with my buddy in Covington from Puyallup. Although my current radio is stuck on narrow band and he kept asking me to speak up (was coming through clear but my voice sounded very low).

Got some additional gear coming in this weekend to test. At least I got my call sign, for what that's worth.
