After over a month of using the DMR system I've come across a few stations that when they key up my TYT MD-390 displays a unique name or phrase. How do you edit your DMR radio ID display name? I did a few Internet searches but I didn't find any instructions on how to do it. Any one here that can enlighten me? Thanks.

CPS = Customer Programming Software, AKA the software you use to program the radio.

Let me guess, someone gave you a codeplug?

Get with someone who knows what they are doing, who is willing to Elmer, and learn to write and manage your codeplugs. There is no substitute for this, if you want to be master of the equipment.

It would take one paragraphs to explain the procedure, and the Whys and Wherefores here.

??? Sorry, I don't know what is the contact section in CPS. A bit more information would be helpful. Thanks.
In short, you must add the 'contact information' into the code plug of your radio via the CPS, then upload it to your radio.

The contact list contains the talk group id# and names, and then a list of id#'s, names, and call signs.

Think of it as you do store phone numbers in your cell phone. It's pretty much the same idea.

Thank you very much. I appreciate the explanation. I'll try it out. All the best.

Sorry to put a damper on things but the information provided above is a little lacking in functional detail

There are two contact lists that you need to be aware of

1) Digital Contact List in the Radio (My MD380 radio will only handle 1000 of these. They are mainly used for outgoing group and private calls. They will provide minimal detail (Name and Call and ID where the main Contact database is missing). This list can be edited in the CPS used to program the radio.

2) DMR Digital Contact Database - Created from obtaining a registered DMR ID and downloaded from the internet at regular intervals to keep current with new registrations. There are, at present, over 91,000 calls in this database. This is not generally handled by the CPS used to program the radio. There are special tools available to do this like the RETEVIS UserDB Manager for the TYT MD-2017. This database provides the Name, Call, City Prov/State and Country when an Incoming call is heard

I hope this clears up a little of the confusion

If the OP is asking about the ability to edit HIS name as it might appear on the radios of other users, this can only be done by contacting one of the database managers for DMR-MARC... the group that manages the worldwide DMR user database for amateur radio.

On the other hand, if the OP is using a borrowed codeplug that contains a made-up ID or someone else's ID number, he needs to contact DMR-MARC to apply for his own ID number.

Sadly this is way too common nowadays. People get a code plug from somebody, & have absolutely no idea how to program their radio. To the question. Go to the contact list, & change what you want to change.
