Is anyone else having trouble getting the State Police from Howard County?
It seems as though the traditional 42.42 is seldom used anymore. I found frequencies in the 800 range that are supposed to be for the Peru Post or some kinds of Kokomo/Peru Post link, but I never get anything on it but a little static every now and then.

Holy smoke, partner! You sure dug up an OLD thread. This thread is a little over three years old now. This bad boy brings back memories of my very early novice days of getting into this hobby!

Anyway, to answer your question, I am not sure about the 42.42 as I do not have it programmed in. I have the 800 rang freqs that you speak of in but have them locked out as all I hear is what you mentioned. I am not sure what the deal is with those. I hope someone else can shed some light on it for you.

ISP is phasing out the 42.xx freq's. Many new cars do not even have the radios and posts are having equipment removed. They have all switched to the Statewide SAFE-T system. You will need a digital scanner. The static you are hearing on those 800 MHz Freq's is the scanner failing to decode the digital voice. Check out the RR wiki for info on digital scanners, you can also search the forums here as there it a ton of info to be found. Hope this helps :)

By the way, I moved this into it's own thread :)

Scanner Freak, The 42 Mhz frequencies are indeed being phased out for the Safe-t system. If you will look at my past posting here as I had a Brother who was employed by the Indiana State Police and still have friends on the department who keep my updated. The cars that are now are on the road only have 800Mhz safe-t.155.475 (ILEEN) Indiana Law Enforcement Radio Network which is overseen by the Indiana State Police is also onthe way out becuse of Mutural aid channels on safe-t for the district. 155.370 is still being used as a Point-Point channel for contact with Cities,Counties who do not have 800Mhz Mutural aid.The new Indiana State Police cars now only have 800Mhz antennas on the roof. You may see other ISP cars on the road that have a cb radio anteena or a scanner antenna on the trunk lid. 42.420Mhz is still being used for Monday Morning test of the Extend test at 10AM. I hear Indianapolis Dist 52 and Dist 51 Pennelton Post. Also sometimes Indianapolis will re-broadcast a pursuit on 42.420 with the dispatch side only and this is what is going out on 800Mhz.Hope this helps Jahnotis in the Peru Dist 16 area...

A lot of the problems with K-Town is that the Kokomo tower isn't the best one, if you have a digital scanner try programming Peru, Gettingsville, or another tower that's close... I've taken my scanner into Kokomo and can't pick up there tower as good as I could Gettingsville

thanks!!

Thanks a lot fellas. Yeah I'm a serious novice at this. I assumed that I wasn't getting the State Police due to a fleet map problem or having very old frequencies. Also, as a novice
I assumed EDACS was digital. If Kokomo goes digital, will I then have to use the motorola mode?

If Kokomo goes EDACS digital you are out of luck. No scanner can monitor that system. If they go digital I hope they go with Motorola.

I hope that if they do go digital, they are smart and join SAFE-T. That said, I don't think they will be making any changes in the near future. I could be wrong though. Only time will tell.

O.k. so the EDACS is analogue. According to the manual in my Pro 2055, EDACS, LTR, and Motoralla are referred to as digital. I assumed since I can trunk frequencies in their proper logistical order that EDACS is digital. I have a lot to learn don't I !
