Hey Guys!

I need some help. LONG story short: I'm kinda elbows deep into learning about the art of scanners and all that goes with it. I had wanted a simple little scanner to pick up my local Counties (Catoosa County,GA and Hamilton County, TN) but received a super nice, and fairly complicated (for me) Uniden BCT15X. And after talking on the Forum with several other people, I find that I need a digital scanner to listen to my local area since the Uniden I have is NOT.

I have the ARC-XT software. I even "kinda" know how to program with it But, for the life of me I really don't know what to set this thing up for. It's like I've just gotten my Drivers License at the age of 16 and I've been given the keys to a Porsche. But it's a stick and all I've ever practiced driving with was an automatic. I have it down in theory, but in practice I have not experience.

Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah... you may want to upgrade to a digital scanner if you're going to listen to those agencies. If you check the RR database you'll notice that the State of Tennessee has installed the TVRTS system, it's in the 700mhz band and is 100% digital. I'm originally from the S.E. Tennessee area and it changes constantly every time I visit family... it seems some agencies are on the system, although they have their own system, and/or in the process of making the switch to the TVRTS.

I've programmed a BCT15X ONCE and it was a pain in the arse compared to my GRE. Not saying it's good or bad just different than what I'm use to. I have noticed that GRE and Uniden users are like Ford and Chevy guys.... one guy will like one over the other and vice versa. If you want to stick with the Uniden I used a program called Freescan, I use software from Starrsoft for my GRE scanners and find it easier and more intuitive for me. I understand the Uniden BC996XT is an excellent scanner though I haven't had the opportunity to use one.

I;m looking into another scanner. The ones mentioned and suggested are a bit out of my financial range at the moment. But, I'm keeping notes on everything. Trust me, nothing is going to waste here. But, as I learn more, I'll be wanting to expand and get more goodies. I just have to finish up with this adoption so the wife (the tight fisted who-ha!) will release me some of my hard earned gains! LOL

But, as always, I appreciate the info!
