Was wondering about using an HP@ in Illinois for Bond Madison and Sangamon county. I believe some area or departments are simulcast any ideas on how this would work or suggestions

If you have a known simulcast system or site you're trying to monitor, go with the SDS scanners.

Thanks i dont know about any beside starcom out in the bond county area was wanting to set one up as a gift

Scroll to the county in question, go to the site name on the left, click on it and will open a map. If you see more than one "pin", it's more likely than not a simulcast site. If the scanner is staying in one spot, and within a non-simulcast trunking area, it would be ok. If there's a chance it will be mobile, go with a SDS scanner.

 

[Starcom21]

Madison and St Clair are the only 2 simulcast sites.
However if you are out of these 2 counties, there is a good chance you will only receive one the sites (of the simulcast) and it may work ok.

There is also a 4 site simulcast being installed in Sangamon for rural fire
