Ok, I read some posts about using these nice little compact computers for scanner feeds. I picked up a new unit from eBay and am totally lost. This computer only allows a limited amount of functionality. Can anyone help me get this up and running? I have a copy of Windows XP that I can put on it and start form scratch. I am not a computer programmer, so I could use any hep provided. Hell, I would even be willing to pay a small fee to have someone configure this for me.
In general clients come in a couple different formats. Netboot where they do not have an OS and need a server to boot from, Windows CE, and Windows XPe. (XP embedded)
If your thin client does not have Windows XPe installed then it is possibly useless. I do not think you can install regular XP, mainly because these things have a 512 or 1GB SDD in them at best.
XPe is not just something you can get a disk for either, you need to go to the manufacturers website and get the XPe image for that thin client. Usually they will have instructions on how to restore the XPe image.
If you do get XPe running I understand the standard Scancast or whatever the Windows program is called will work fine.
Most of these can run a standard laptop sized hard drive. So you can always install Linux and use DarkIce to stream to RR. But that is another post entirely.
