• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I've been programming my 1250 for years now through the software and just got a new computer. The software installed and the USB driver installed for the programming cable but when I try to "read device" it just gives me a message saying "Cannot creat unknown radio component." I'm just wondering if that means it's not recgonizing the radio or what the problem is. It also gives this message even if the radio is not connected to the computer. I've used Vista with the software for about a year with no problem so I know it's not the operating system. I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!

Does vista recognize the com port that you're using with the USB device? Also, I'm sure you know all the tweaks with using vista and the CPS (themes you can use, etc...) ? And you're still using 32 bit Vista, not 64 bit?

No luck with the compatibility mode. I think I just might give Motorola a call tomorrow and see what they have to say. I may need to purchase a new version that will work on 64bit. Hopefully not though. Thanks for all your help. I'll post what motorola has to say.

have gone into device manager and found out what com port it is useing and set the software to read from port. you may have to change the com port to a lower unused com port like com 1 or 2. i had some trouble the first time i used it with vista and thats what i had to do.

I am having a similar problem. i Have a USB ribless cable that i have used on my computer before and still do on an XP machine but is will not re-install on my Vista 32bit ultimate Dell laptop. it worked before but nothing seems to work now. the Device manage says that the cable cannot start and the CPS program ask if the computer has any com ports. if I un-install the cable the CPS can see the com ports. any help would be appreciated
