Could have just been me. However, we didn't hear anything on any of the STARNET systems in the area. The control channels were there (at least one), but there was no voice activity heard. I did not get to pay a whole lot of atention; runing the wife to-and-fro. I was there for about an hour. I did see a lot of tress down, but not nearly the mess I saw in Liberty and Polk Counties. Good luck.

I drove through Walker County saturday and sunday and heard Walker County SO and Huntsville PD along with Walker County EMS both times on the STAR-Net P25 system.

Same here. Things seem to be back to normal, radio-wise. I found that Entergy TRS was surprisingly quiet (but running). I talked to some workers who were working on some poles. They had come all the way from Seattle. So far, they had replaced some 50 poles. Besides the numerous brush piles on the curbs, not much damage is left, except for the house in these photos:
(Yes, there is a house there)

Later on, I passed by the house again and saw some people standing in the yard scratching their heads!

Walker CO Starnet/ Entergy

I did not hear any VHF Stuff. And to be honest, I was only able to tell that the control channels were getting tracked. HAving been a cop for 20 years, I know in smalltown USA, that things can just be quiet. We were there from about 10AM and were out by 1PM and I only had bout of hour of solid listening time. THe system was there, just didn't get any hits.

I heard DPS on VHF. Also heard an air op on or about 148.150 discussing disater relief.

The Entergy tower in Liberty CO was up with continuous traffic from Friday night until we left the coverage area Sunday morning. There were a lot of different talk groups showing up that were not listed as being local to the SE Texas area.

Most of the traffic now seems to be on the Montgomery Repair channel, which is about normal. Most of the linemen have already left the Huntsville area, and Entergy has almost completely restored power to the areas effected.

An update on that house: I passed by there again yesterday, and the tree was gone. However, I don't think that house can be repaired...

A friend of mine evac'd to the Madisonville area, and they got their lights back a full 4 days before we did here in Stinkadena. And parts of metro Harris County are still in the dark.

Life around here has pretty much returned back to normal. Galveston County and coastal Harris County from La Porte/Morgan's Point down to Seabrook is looking to be pretty miserable for months to come. My monitoring capabilities are somewhat diminished atm, but 155.445 (162.2) is still carrying DPS convoy traffic, and the 800 I-CALL/I-TAC channels stay pretty busy. Oncor out of Dallas did the power restoral for my part of town, but I don't think I've seen them using radios at all and the trucks aren't sporting antennas.

Thanks Michael, I already had those programmed in and didn't hear anything on them.

Glad you have lights now and you are correct, there are still lots of people around the metro area that are in the dark; I noticed the at newies are finally reporting all of the supply companies data instead of just Centerpoint and Entergy. Texas/New Mexico (which supplies most of Galveston Co.) was not mentioned until the past few days. When I watched some out of town power folks (from NC) working on the lines in the next area behind the house (not my circuits) it seems that when they finished they got on a cell phone to get the next job to go to.

There are still some interesting storm related things on STARNET; Galveston Co. SO 1 & 2 are both still interesting and if you are into it (which I am not) MutAid 6 has carried the FEMA POD support traffic since right after they started to set up.

I got back from Galveston yesterday evening. Needless to say, the news and videos on TV don't anywhere come close to what we saw... it was very overwhelming.

We made it to the west end of the island around 12:00 noon.... and it was complete and utter disaster. You can see earlier in the thread what my buddies' place looked like, but I'll tell you out on Bermuda beach it was complete destruction. There are a number of homes that we remember being right on the water that are complete gone. Nothing left.

Plus, the road that ran in front of the house is completely gone and is now beach.

Galveston City and SO were very busy, and I've never EVER seen more DPS in one location then on the island and heading out. It was amazing how many troopers were out. I must have counted 15 troopers at various points northbound between the island and the beltway.

You should have seen the Troopers immediately after the storm, it was crazy. They were in from all over the state, I talked to several in from El Paso working the checkpoint in High Island last weekend.

Tensions were running high back around the 16th and communication between agencies isn't what it should be in this day and age. The morning Bush was on the island I thought there was going to be a fist fight between a local agency and DPS at the I-45 checkpoint. One officer said, "I'm going down there and fixing this right now. I may be in jail tonight but this is gonna be fixed." You could hear the emotion in their voices and it was a little nerve racking to listen to.

Other than this one incident all the emergency personell I've dealt with have been in surprisingly good spirits considering the circumstances they're having to work under.
