I noticed this weekend that my aircraft receiver went silent when using my outdoor antenna (discone). Switched over to my whip antenna and I’m getting signal but not what I’m used to from my Hustler. Generally get very good reception from 108 mhz up to 500 mhz On the discone. thought one of the cable ends went flakey so I replaced both of them. No change. For the heck of it I tried it on the 20m amateur band and it was gangbusters. Pulling in CB well too. Big signal so I assume the cable going to the discone is just acting as a long wire antenna. I was thinking there must be a break in the cable somewhere. It’s a long cable going up over 20 feet so it’s a bit of a pain to replace.
Any ideas?

Do you have a nanoVNA or other antenna analyzer? That would tell you what to look at.

Thanks for the replies. I have an antenna analyzer on my wish list. I have lots of coax, might as well get my creaky bones up the ladder & attempt to fix it.
