Hello Yaesu junkies. I'm programming an 8800 using RT-Systems software. I really like both and have a relatively good grasp on the Hyper Memory theory and how powerful it can be when used in conjunction with the available Banks and Scanning options.

Turns out that Yaesu's manual describes Hyper Memory usage in less detail (and with less emphases on configuration) than does the RT Software. But neither of their help manuals tell me what happens to the default memory contents when you activate one of the Hyper Memory buttons. Or better yet, how to get back to them.

For example, I have certain repeaters programmed into the Hyper Memory 1 location, GMRS programmed into Hyper Memory button 2, etc., etc. Assuming I just turned on the radio for the first time since using the RT Software to program the radio, all the frequencies are available on their respective sides. Then I press a Hyper Memory button and now only the frequencies, skips and attributes that were programmed into that Hyper Memory location are available. And this is as it should be. But how does one get back to the default location where ALL the frequencies are located?

I know I can use one of the 6 Hyper Memory buttons to store everything but I hate to waste a button if I don't have to. And it just seems reasonable that there be a way to get back to the default location. Or am I asking too much?

TIA

Jim

OK, quick update. After a little testing (and less reading of the manual) it appears that the radio's settings are actually assigned to Hyper Memory Location #1 by default. Which is a good thing to know as it brings with it the inherent problem that changes made to the BANK & SKIP settings of Hyper Memory location 1 that could make certain freq's unavailable to the user.

So for what it's worth, program your radio in such a manner that ALL frequencies are available under Hyper Memory location 1 and use Hyper Memory locations 2-6 for creating Banks of limited access freq's. I guess it's not imperative that it be location 1, you can probably use any location you wish, just select a location and make sure that all freq's in the radio are left available in that Hyper Memory location.
