• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hytera PD705LT can't upgrade FW past V6

Hello all.

I bought a second hand Hytera PD705LT and am currently trying to upgrade the firmware to be able to have basic encryption working. I have downloaded multiple versions of V7, V8 and V9 but none work. The error message is “The firmware version [xx.x.xx.xxx] is beyond the upgrade software!”.

I did manage to upgrade it from V6.00.07.005 to V6.05.07.006, so there is no password protection preventing fw upgrades.

The model number is PD705-0000000L-0000E0-U1-0-B and if I look in the list of supported models there is always one that is the same except for the "E" in the third section with the supported model being all zeros.

Is the radio too old to support FW higher than V6? Or can someone link to a FW update file that works?

These are the ones I have tried:

V7.00.11.007
V7.06.05.002
V7.06.06.000
V8.00.06.007
V8.01.02.003
V8.05.06.005
V8.05.07.004
V9.00.05.405
V9.00.07.105

Thanks!

You are absolutely right. This model (LT) has not received an firmware update higher than the specified version. You can only update the firmware higher if you reflash the radio to a non-LT model. Therefore, you are wasting your time looking for a suitable UpgradeKit.

Ok, poor research on my part before purchase then. Is it difficult to reflash it? Can it be done with the standard programming cable?

Yes, it is done with a standard programming cable. But, it is also necessary to have some engineering software and most importantly, experience in such operations. I don't think you can do it yourself. Better find someone in your location who will do it for you. Otherwise, you can easily brick your radio.

Well, I don't mind the risk as it not usable for me as it is. I have done similar operations before, just need to know the exact procedure. I have the Hytera FlashBurn app, is that the one you mean when saying "engineering software"?

Yes, it will do. Since you have the necessary software and experience with it, everything is in your hands. You only need to change one character in the model number, as you already noted earlier. Read rcdb_data change E to 0 save the changes and write the data to the radio. If everything goes well, your radio will turn into a normal PD705 and you will be able to update the firmware to any version. But, I want to remind you once again that everything you do, you do at your own risk.

It worked! I am now on V8.05 FW and can use basic encryption. Thank you so much!

@cgservice what is LT stands for? I could not find a proper source
I'm sorry mate, but I also don't know the exact decoding of this abbreviation. But, since PD705LT is a cut-down version of PD705, then we can assume something like "Light" or "Limited" or "Licensed". In any case, this is a model with limited characteristics and is not recommended for purchase by ordinary users. Well, or after purchase it needs to be reflashed to PD705.
