Hey everyone. I have a Grecom PSR-500 digital trunking scanning receiver .. I don't know much about digital scanning so I need some help :( I want to listen to OC trunk 1 for EMS but I don't exactly know how to go about doing that. My radio had some pre-programmed things in there and i activated the ones for ocean county, but I haven't heard anything yet so I don't think it's working .. can someone point me in the right direction because I don't know what I'm doing. lol

I don't have a GRE scanner but there should be a section in the manual for programming trunk systems. The Ocean County system is a Motorola Type 2 UHF system. You will need to program the system frequencies, base frequency, spacing, offset channel and the talk groups you want to listen to. You will also need to program the conventional fire and EMS dispatch frequency (508.1875 PL 71.9) separately from the trunk system. Fire and EMS units are dispatched on this frequency. After dispatch they switch to the trunk system for operations. Here is the information on the trunk system:
http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=714
The System ID and Connect Tone are also listed there. Disregard them. You don't need to program them.
Also, it lists the system type as Motorola Type 2 Smart Zone. "Smart Zone" is just a type of Motorola trunk system. Disregard it when programming. Just program it as a Motorola (or MOT) Type 2 or Motorola (Or MOT) Type 2 UHF, whichever the manual calls for.

If you get Win500 and set it up (30 day free trial) I'll attach a file that has most of what you'll want to listen to in Ocean County, and you can unzip the file in win500 directory, run the program, open the file and upload it to the scanner. Then you can play with the file, add to, delete, edit, or what ever, save it, and you'll have it. I would register the program, once you use it, you'll see why, I use it often. Let me know! The link for win 500 is below.

lilcampy, Welcome to RR. You bought a good scanner, some things that will make life simpler for you, check out Win500, or PSE EDIT software, both are about the 35 dollar range and offer a trial period (30days) to see what software you like. You will also need to be premium subscriber to RR which is a great value for the money spent. It is possible to hand program your scanner or program it from a clone, if someone in your area would assist you with it. I highly recommend using the software. There is a bunch of threads about programing here on RR. Good Luck

Steve you beat me to it.......

Also, check to see that the ocean county system isnt already there! Be sure you manually scan thru the scanlists. If I am not mistaken,I think it comes pre-programmed but you may need to update or change the base/offset/spacing info from this websites database. Good luck!!
