I'm hearing french clear on 12112.
Hey maine-good info and detail on that radio of yours-you may just help some folks out there make a decision on one. Far as the above-quoted part of your last post, pretty much all of the SW broadcasts transmit either on the 5's or 0's. So you likely heard WTWW out of Lebanon, Tn. on 12105kHz, as they broadcast French in the 20-24utc hours and you heard 'em in the 2200utc hour:)

Thank you sir for that positive feedback. I would also like to report-on the search mode, if you have the timer set for any amount of time, it is also ON on the 2nd display. If you are scanning vhf-uhf freqs programmed in and not on manual, it will set for the time of your search time is on. ( It will change channels whether someones talking or not ).Not on manual. Volume sux. Period. The ear piece is the only way to hear the sounds perfect.. Unless you are on an island. That scan program can work for you--scan and listen to the game at the same time. Scan other stations at commercial time. Hahaha--the sportsmans radio/scanner.. By the way, 2 knobs-2 subknobs- 2 volume controls. Turn 1 down while you tune into another. Next is to master the priority. piece of cake--( marble )

I got the priority down. But it is NOT my thing. I've tested the priority function in many radio shack and a couple of uniden scanners. But THIS 1 is not the best. On the pro 83, the priority is quick and perfect. This 1 has priority checks in 5 second steps--5 second, 10, 15,,,. Even then it is an out of channel search--IOW it misses too much of a conversation when it checks. When the priority channel does get action, the skip is still there every 5 seconds. Good for emergencies. I also tried the DUAL scan mode. I thought it was a search, but I cant get it to function. Tamperring around with the LINK feature made it freeze up. A pisser! I took the battery off, put it back on. It went right back to it the second I tried to scan a single bank. Had to reset it. ALL the freqs I put in there, gone cause of 1 goof. My opinion has dropped a little on this RIG. It is looking more like a 7... I like the fact that I can tune and see 2 scanner banks at once. But these side tricks are nuts.. I still dont know how GROUPS are formed. Just 0-99 channels per bank, and the display says 000 with a number under neath between 1--11. Then a DUAL. Oh well..I still dont think this RIG is worth &500.00. $5.00, more like

1 more item of interest, you can program the function of the keys/buttons, and knobs. Somehow I put the squelch control from pushing knob and turn to turn the knob. Vice versa on the volume, was turn the knob, now its push knob down and turn knob. Funky toy

After reading page by page, using all the wire techniques- I found out why I get the static and the sound of a washing machine. It seems this toy does have alot to offer;

Heres just a few words about this wonderful static collector---

The built-in bar antenna does not support shortwave broadcasts. You
need to connect an oppropriate antenna
Since the SSB/CW reception of the DJ-X11 uses a simple circuit, the
performance against interference or suppression is inferior to communication
receivers, however, this is not a malfunction. Sometimes USB
can be demodulated with LSB depending on the signal strength.
• The filter is common to CW and SSB and does not support the Narrow mode.
• To receive frequencies lower than the short wave band where SSB
and CW are frequently used, it is especially important to install an appropreate
external antenna.
The receiving sensitivity adjustment of the DJ-X11 cannot “increase
the sensitivity” such as when using a preamplifier.
• The noise you hear while no signal is received (called background
noise or white noise) may vary in condition, volume and sound quality
depending on the modulation mode, aerial condition, frequency and so
on, and this is not a malfunction.
• The radio signal strength and sound quality which can be received may
be affected by various factors including the power supply to be used (AC
adapter or battery), locations/conditions (presence of electric appliances
such as fl uorescent lamps or TV, wooden or steel bar reinforced
building, region, whether the user is standing still or walking, etc.) and
aerial condition, and this is not a malfunction.
• The supplied whip antenna is designed mainly to receive the V/UHF
bands outdoors. To efficiently receive signals indoors which are in the
long wave, medium wave, short wave, and 1000 MHz or higher UHF
bands, install a commercially-available external antenna suitable for
the respective frequencies.
• In an area affected by an intense electric field, such as an area close to
mountains where many transmission towers or stations exist, you may
experience signal overlapping such as when airplane communication
overlaps a radio broadcast sound. This, however, is not a malfunction.
Using the Attenuator or RF Gain function described later can reduce
such interference and interruption.
• The DJ-X11 receives radio signals over a very wide range, however,
when it is compared with radios or receivers specifi cally designed for a
certain frequency range, its sensitivity, sound quality and volume may
be inferior within that range. This is because their circuit designs are
completely different; this is not a malfunction.
• The preset mode cannot be used with the sub band.
• When a certain combination of frequencies is set for the main and sub
bands, one or both bands may experience reception failure, interference
or unstable operation. This is due to the attempt to receive signals
with two bands simultaneously and is unavoidable.
Wow, 2 bands at once doing that, great,...

I was also wrong about it's searches, you CAN program a search. But you can only scan 1 at a time. Dang!! At least you can edit it-- 6 of 10 stars for that function..

This RIG may have searches, but to lockout a freq gives a new headache to medium size searches. Example: from 5.000 to 26.000 you will hit a TON of stations to be locked out. If you MAKE IT to the 13.000 range after locking out at least 60 freqs, when you lockout say 12870, the search begins again back at the starting freq. Whoever said " let the knob turning begin " wasnt kidding..Its taken me over 20 minutes to get a search PAST the 9000 area.. I'll say it again--you better have patience when working this fine peice ( &* @%$# ) of technology

most people won't use a search or scan, they will generally turn the knob, in the appropriate band at the right time of the day.

I think you are trying too much with that rig

OK, I got this thing figgerred out, plus the right WIRE arrangement. I also believe I got a 4 foot hf antenna -- that helps. This thing is a good learning tool, but it's obviously too small for what it does.. Besides, I like BIG knobs.. It's supposed to get warm this week, cant wait to get this set-up out side for some clean signals, DX on an open feild
