I have recently gotten back into railroad photography and a scanner is very helpful. I have a Uniden Bearcat BC346XLT scanner. I bought a Smiley 5/8 Slim Duck 160mhz antenna. I also have a steel whip mag mount antenna cut to 17-1/2" for the 160mhz band. In the car, moving which would be the better antenna to use?

Sounds like you have all the antennas you need.

An 1/4 wave VHF on the mag mount you have should work well. 1/4 Wave antennas are great and not too big.
