I have 4 "favorites lists" with several "systems" programed in my 436. With only one "FL" selected to be scanned, no problem, but when I manually scroll through that list, it scrolls through all my lists in order of the system's "Quick Key" number. Also if I scan more than one favorite, it scans back and forth between each list in order of the system quick key numbers. Something is causing the scanner to scan or scroll through all my systems controlled by their "Quick Number" ignoring the lists' "Favorite" number. Is there a global setting that I'm missing?

Could this be what you are talking about:

Scanning is performed with a mixture of FLQK order and SQK order. The scanner will not scan all Systems in one Favorites List and then move to the next List.
For each Favorites List, starting with 0, the scanner will scan each 0 SQK in FLQK order and then move to the next set of SQKs for each list. All Department and Site QKs are scanned with each System.
Example:
FLQK 0, SQK 0, DQK 0-99; FLQK 1, SQK 0, DQK 0-99….
FLQK 98, SQK 99, DQK 0-99; FLQK 99, SQK, 99, DQK 0-99.
Systems, Departments, and Sites with the same QK are scanned in order of creation.

This comes from page 51 of the manual on Scanning Order.

Why the scanning order was set up is unknown to me. . . I too think from a user perspective, it should be such that all systems in a Favorites List are scanned, then all the systems in the next FL, etc.

Having said that, I'm sure the radio engineers must have had a reason for doing it as they did.

That is the way it works. Just watch as the unit scans.

As for the OP, are you using the latest firmware? Have you tried overwriting your programming (erase all FLs and overwrite)? It sounds like you may have programmed parts of your FLs at different times.

Yea, I erased every thing and started all over again and still the non sequential scanning when 2 or more "FLs" are open. I'm using Butel Basic the most recent up date and the radio is 1.03.00. Is it necessary to number every channel?

Y Is it necessary to number every channel?

If you are talking about the "Number Tag" column, no you do not. It's a "user discretion" thing.

The number tag feature is something that allows you to rapidly acess a channel. If you wish to use the feature, then you do.

I'm "hit or miss". Those channels that are important to me, I number tag, the rest I do not.

For example, in Favoritest List 1, System 0 and a channel called "Fire 5", I give that channel number tag 5. (I set my FL Number tags and System Number tags to the same as the quick key, and the channel number tag is something I associate with the channel).

Thus if I want to "jump" to Fire 5, I press "Channel 1.0.5 Channel" and I'm holding on Fire 5.

Understood, my issue is the order in which systems are scanned when more than one "Favorite List" is enabled. It seams that the scanner will hop back and forth between favorites, playing each system with the same "Quick Key" number before moving on to the next. If I recall correctly, the scanner would go through all systems in a favorite list before it went to the next list. I guess I was hallucinating, nothing new for me! Ha Ha.

turning on/off systems while scanning

HELP!! I love this 536. However, even as a PRO 197 expert, this one has me stumped!! Lol. I have my favorites numbered. I even have my "everyday" systems assigned a "startup key". But how can I turn on/off favorites while the scanner is on?

I have my favorites numbered. I even have my "everyday" systems assigned a "startup key". But how can I turn on/off favorites while the scanner is on?

If you mean "numbered" as having a Favorites List Quick Key assigned, simply press the quick key number on the key pad then E/yes. That sequence will toggle the FL quick key (and thus the Favorites List) on or off.

As an example, a Favorites List has a quick key number of 15. To turn that Favorites List on/off it is 15 E/Yes.

There's another feature I find quite useful. In Sentinel, you can open the profile editor and go to the Quick Keys Status tab. You'll see checkboxes for quick keys. A checked box means the FL quick key is on by default. Unchecked sets the FL quick key off by default.

On my scanner I have some FL quick keys on by default and others off by default. The ones that are off are those I don't listen to regularly, but if I get in to mood to, then all I have to do is turn the quick key on (the xx E/yes sequence).

I know in scanning it is "to each his own" but for me I prefer this to the "Start up" key method. There is enough stuff to commit to memory and remembering which startup keys go with Favorites List(s), is a little over the top for me.

Also you can switch favorite lists without rebooting the scanner.
