Hi I got a pro 97 yesterday from a friend and I have it scanning fayetteville nc fire. I was able to program the frequencies and I think I have the talk groups programed right to but no matter what I do it just wont scan the ids. I have read the manual and the easier to read manual and still cant get it to scan. The system is Motorola Type II Smartnet. I know i;m just doing some thing wrong and as you can tell i;m new to scanners any way thanks for your help.

What exactly is it doing? If it's scanning and the TGid's are in and not locked out then it should be scanning them. If you are seeing different id's than the ones you put in then you need to close the scan bank by pressing FUNC + Delay(the decimal mark). Check to make sure the ID's arent locked out and that you have them in the proper format (just use DEC mode). Make sure its on the right system of course. They could also just not be talking so just give it a little while.

If you are trying to monitor the VIPER system, there are two problems, rebanding and digital.
Most of the talk groups are digital and some are encrypted. The PRO-97 will not receive either mode.

PRO-97 Trunking

Did you use software to program the scanner, or program it by hand? Did you set each frequency to MOT mode and set the BANK to MOT mode? You must SCAN to "trunk track" the TG IDs.

Also, if you park the scanner on an active control channel, do you see "statistics" on the last line of the display? Is there a good percentage? If not, you might need a better signal. Next park the scanner on a voice frequency, are you picking them up OK? If you program the voice frequency in MOT mode (you normally don't need them programmed at all), you should see the TG info on the last line of the display with each transmission. Not the way to monitor, but an aid in determining what is wrong.
