I have tried just about everything to be able to listen to the SCPD, which recently upgraded to all digital. I am at my wits end with this scanner. Please don't tell me to look up how to program digital because I've looked on Youtube, I've spent HOURS programming all the frequencies and all the TGID's. I would like to "speak" to someone on here who knows how to program the scanner and how I should go about programming the scanner. I have a BCD996p2.

This system Sufflock County is setup as two separate systems, a 700 and 800 Trunk Systems in the county issued radios.

Talk groups will normally be on one of the two system layers.
Police and law enforcement will be on the 800MHz Cells.
County Fire and Townwide Talkgroups should be on the 700MHz Cell.

If all you have programmed in is the 700Mhz towers you will never hear the PD.

Check your private messages in upper right corner.

...and what is SCPD?

Assuming Suffolk County Police Department?

@ems324 are you inquiring about SCPD on Suffolk County's trunked radio system? You may be facing a well documented phenomenon known as simulcast distortion if you're within range of two or more towers on any of the listed simulcasts (this wouldn't apply to sites 005, 006, 007 or 008 as they're single-site) Read about what it is and how to mitigate it in the wiki linked below but ultimately you'd be much better off with an SDS100 or SDS200 to track simulcast systems

I wasn't sure, there's a Bayshore NY just west of the Buffalo area near Lake Erie. I was born in that area light years ago.

Are you using programming software? If not, you can use FreeSCAN which is free. The only DMR public safety I see are DMR conventional frequencies for Red Cross EMS on Shelter Island and Stony Brook University. FreeSCAN does not support DMR or NXDN. I have an ARC XT file for the Suffolk County trunked system which I can convert to FreeSCAN. I just need to check if there have been any updates since I did the file. It has all 7 sites and quick keys for selecting the sites and talkgroups you wish to scan. Here is the link to FreeSCAN: Freescan download website

I checked and found that I already have an up-to-date FreeSCAN file for the Suffolk County trunked system which I had done for another member. All you need to do is to download and install the free FreeSCAN software from the link I provided in the previous post. I will walk you through how to install the file on your scanner. The attached zipped file is the FreeSCAN .996 programming file. Save it to your computer and extract. The second PDF file will answer all of your questions about using quick keys. Print it out and save it for your reference. Quick keys as follows:

SYSTEM QUICK KEYS:
1. 700 East Simul (Site)
2. 700 West Simul (Site)
3. 800 Simulcast (Site)
4. First Precinct (Site)
5. Huntington (Site)
6. Montauk (Site)
7. Port Jefferson (Site)
GROUP QUICK KEYS:
