I was recently given an IC-229H by a friend because the final RF amp went out on it. I hooked the radio to a dummy load and tried transmitting. The output power is only a few mW, but I discovered that it will transmit on frequenices out of the 2M ham band. I took the radio apart to do the AM band mod, so while I was inside I tried to see what had been modded to achieve the full band transmit. Nothing jumped out at me so I searched places like mods.dk to see if the full band tx mod was listed and I couldnt find it anywhere. The rx still works (which is great because I only want to use the radio for monitoring anyway), but I am curious if this is just a fluke or if it was modded. If it was modded, I'd like to know what they changed to make it work this way.
