Hi all, it been a while since you helped me get started in radio years ago. My current question is this: I have several iCom IC-2300H in service and I needed a replacement unit. After some searching, I learned this is a discontinued model. So, I went to eBay and found a USA seller that advertised genuine 2300H. I bought two and all seems genuine, including the hologram sticker. However, when I attach the USB and try to program the radio seems to communicate but the programming doesn't take. I'm wondering if I bought counterfeit? In any case - any suggestions on how to program the transceiver? I'm using the RT Systems software and USB.

If you bought a "new IC-2300H" from an Ebay seller, there's a strong chance that you bought a counterfeit radio.

Is there an FCC ID sticker on the radio? Does it say where the radio is was made? If it say "China", it's definitely a counterfeit as Icom does not build radios in China.

It says Made in Japan but I doubt it. Any tips on making the software work?

The IC-V3500 looks like it might be a replacement for the 2300.

I agree with the "new IC-2300H" being an extreme rarity to find. That said, did you try and see if your software still works with one of your original IC-2300Hs and make sure nothing is awry there?

Yes, it works fine on one of my older units.

Ok, well I guess perhaps they aren't actually "genuine" IC-2300's then. I'm not sure what else could be the issue. I saw some of those ads for the radio on the bay, at a quick glance they seemed ok but I don't know. A while back I was looking for something in a similar situation and it ended up being a clone type of radio, not the real deal. Good luck getting it figured out.

Chinese seller? Guaranteed 100 percent fake.
US seller? You may have a chance at getting your money back. I'd call Icom and see if they can authenticate.
I'm going to try and return through eBay.

I'd call Icom first. If they can't authenticate is a legitimate Icom radio, then that gives them more ammunition to go after the counterfeiters.

Then, try to get a return through Ebay.

I'm curious, what are the first two digits of the serial number on the radio?
