It's got a front end wider than a barn door, no alpha display and I don't think Icom dualband radio support cross-band repeat yet.

The Yaesu is a good choice.

Have had an IC-2720 for about 2 years. It is just about useless in cities and even small towns due to poor intermod rejection. My Yaesu FT-8000R, which the Icom replaced, was much better.

Re:

Intermod and interference from numerous sources hammers the front end of this rig... unless you are out in the desert with no pager or weather service towers nearby, I'd stay away from this dud. ICOM usually makes great equipment, but this was their lemon.
I echo the comments on Yeasu gear...I had the 8100, 8800 etc and they had virtually bullet proof front ends. They are particulary sensitive in the UHF range, and without interference.

I have been running my 2720 mobile for over 6 months now along with a 706MK2G and a Motorola CM300. I travel in rural to dense urban (Chicago) settings and have not experienced any inter mod problems; the only thing that would make this radio a 10 out of 10 is the addition of alphanumeric for the programmed frequencies.
