Hi guys,

Don't fall for marketing hype like some did before, the Mk2G isn't going away any time soon. Icom pulled a phony "close out sale" to unload it's surplus units with that "replacement" ploy before, I took advantage and got mine for about $200 less than the previous price. Then once it was accomplished the price went up by $300 so now it's back up to the price it was when first introduced thereby taking advantage of a booming market. Now get this, you can get a $100 "discount" at Dayton so it looks like somebody else (Need I say who?) has a finger in the pie.

For what it's worth, that compact do it all wonder box satisfied my needs all the way 'round so I recommend it especially for mobile application. Just be sure to give it plenty of ventillation and don't transmit like an old buzzard, being so much is crammed into such a small box it tends to get very hot.

While you're there check out KJI Electronics and give my friend Gene some business. No kidding, he's an astute and honest businessman well known for good deals so please don't mind the advertizement.

I do not think the 706 will be around much longer. The unit new radio is comming for sure. ICOM apprently is trying to keep the radio a secrete until Dayton would be my guess.

It is so! Talked to the federal sales rep and got a brochure several weeks ago. Unfortunately, it's not available as of yet. FCC type acceptance pending! I've seen prices from overseas at around 1200 usd.

Yep,

The 7000 was revealed at the Dayton Hamvention last week.

As is typical, there is already a Yahoo Group for the rig with over 500 members.

If not familiar, goto yahoo.com, click on Groups, put "Icom IC 7000" in the SEARCH box. Take ya right there. This group is requiring Moderator acceptance of your registration, and you must be a ham, provide name and callsign.

Ummm Ic- 7000's.....now there's a rig that a beaver could get his teeth on :D

Here is a complete, concise description of the 7000 with pics, details and available accessories.

Article also states that the 7000 is NOT a replacement for the 706

Ought to make a great scanner for vhf & uhf with the 500+ memories, 2-mode bandscope and all the digital goodies.

If anyone has used a color TFT in the sunlight will find that the screen all but disappears once the background light exceeds the screen illumination capability. I don't know why a mobile would use a screen that is so hard to read when used in the application it was designed for?

Just my 2 pennies.
