Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,

I have a IC-F3S-2, and I am using the ICCF3.EXE cloning software. Sometimes when I go to Clone -> Info, it gives me the radio Information and sometimes it gives me the Cannot access RS-232 error.

Success

GOOD.PNG

Failure
BAD.PNG

Only info works. Read or Write always have the RS-232 Errors.

Is there any good way to troubleshoot whether the problem is with the radio or cable?

Both were second hand.

Thanks,
CJ

Update

After trying about 30 times I finally got it to pull the frequencies of the radio. Tried once more and it started giving me more RS-232C errors. Radio or Cable?

This is the same behavior I see when my com port (baud? bit?) rate is not at 19200. Check your setting and see if that clears it up. Depending on your operating system it should be under advanced settings under the COM port heading in the device manager. Hope that helps.

Pipster,

Thanks for the tip. My baud rate wasnt at 19200, but even after chaning it to 19200 the behavior remained the same. I broke down and bought another cable to see if the solves anything. I will post back with the results in a week or so.

Thanks Again,
CJ

I dont think that you have a cable problem. It looks more like an OS problem.

That program is a DOS program and isnt very happy running under Windows (It cant access the Com port correctly)

Try using a DOS boot disk and run the program under true DOS and will probably be fine.

I have had a problem with trying to program some F33 and F43 portables. What I have found is that the connector in the radio is the cause. My way around it is to press down on the top of the connector to provide some off angle pressure and it works. Not sure if there is a solder connection problem or just a poor connection. But it works. You might have to work to find the correct angle.

Jim,

Thanks for the tip. I tried pressure and different angles but did not see any difference. If this second cable does not work I may try opening up the device and checking the solder points.
