That's a nice looking HT.

If that unit becomes available at a great price point. It would probably do well. I say this because nowadays we are stuck with cheap $35 rigs, on the other hand, the $350 HTs from Yaesu are wayyyyy overpriced for TODAY'S market. Keyword TODAYS! For myself. I want an HT on my tool box that says quality and functionality at a great price. Something that doesn't look flimsy. Let's be honest, the HTs for the amateur side ALL look small, tiny, and flimsy as compared to say, Motorola line of radios.

if this is a dual bander, I would honestly pay $200-225 for it. I believe that's a good sweet spot for an HT.

Icom ic-r30

It's a wide band reciever that is supposed to have a few digital modes. I hope it gets released soon. I have been waiting a year since the information had been released. Hurry up Icom I want one!

I'm wondering if it will be a good investment. I already have the R20, and while I love that radio, the volume quite frankly sucks, especially on SSb. Hopefully the R30 has a better output

I'm very interested to see how this stacks up against the AOR DV-10. I am concerned about the speaker output, also, because the speaker area looks tiny, from what is visible so far.

ICOM is just going through the FCC certification process which can take a while, to ensure this Receiver does not Interfear, that the Bluetooth and GPS works and is Type Acceptance for Digital Receivers.

From the look of the antenna base I would say it was a BNC.

The printing on the buttons around the 4 way selector doesn't match the original mock up shown in Tokyo, but appears to be the same as the units that have been displayed more recently..

What additional digital modes did you have in mind?

the ICOM ic-r30 base is SMC but you can adapt but then it wont be water proof.
the AOR DV-10 is BNC , so no worries there.

Looks like FCC issued two grants of certification for the IC-R30 on Friday (11 May). One of the IDs (AFJ375400) is for a version with the notches on the 800 MHz band, and the other (AFJ375410) covers a version without those notches. The labels for each version have different warnings, and the label for the second version also has Canadian certification numbers.
