ICE/CBP Using Zello?!

I was watching a news clip of a recently release Axon body cam video from an ICE/CBP incident in Chicago and I noticed this. It would appear that some arrest/patrol/ERO teams are using Zello on Android while on operations rather than the systems and frequencies they have access to on their APX's. Had a officer I know in Minnesota confirm he had seen the same there.

Easily possible; I know they use PTTOC for MS Teams regularly, along with ATAK, other Common Operating Picture platforms, local/statewide radio systems, etc. I am part of one Zello LE group for 1811-series that gets used for everything from bored movie trivia to surveillance ops.

picture is blurred are we sure it is ZELLO and not one of the Motorola or other PTTOC Apps that can link/patch to the existing networks ?

100% Zello; I'm on the app at this moment (have been since 2015)

And Zello can be patched to an existing LMR system; I set one up back in 2016.

I know they do have Zello and other apps, the question was more about the one in the photo as it is quite blurred when opening it

Yes, my meaning was that the photo above is 100% a Zello talkgroup (aka channel). I use it for work and personal comms probably 2-5 hours a day. Now if the photo wasn't blurry...

Unfortunately it's the bad quality video they released. Those are the best frames I could get.

True. Which leads me to question if this was connected to STARCOM21 at the time, or another undocumented system.

Could've been linked to their conventional system. I have used my RTL to monitor the DHS TG's on SC21 and unfortunately there have only been a small amount of ID's used on the system itsself.

I would hope the channel isn't public and is password protected.

Here's the link to the video. If anyone can get a better capture, please, by all means go for it. First 50 seconds are when you can see it in different positions. Also, I don't control the title, that's all the Chicago Sun-Times, so please don't take it as political.

Not unless you are part of their Zello channel...

And I think most of the federal LE channels are not listed.
