When I had my PCR-1500, in order to get audio though the USB cable, you had to install the USB driver that came on the ICOM CD. Also, the software had a small icon group that had a speaker icon. This icon gave you a choice of audio via the USB cable, audio via the Ext. Spkr. jack, or both. Does your 2500 have something similar?

Hello,

I was able to get the USB working by reading another thread. Unfortunely the USB audio is made the default and put on the top of the audio list. I had to set the default audio device back to my computer's sound card. The audio is stereo with an option to mix. It appears I can not play the audio directly without the ICOM or other software.

I was wondering about the rubber cover on the side of the R2500 control head and found the ICOM 2720H uses the same control head casting.

The control head is setup for memory or VHF/UHF operation as the tuning knobs are small.

The control protocol is an extension of the PCR-1000 which is good. Existing software should be able to drive the main receiver. With the stereo audio there can be enhanced software that allows searching and recording using both receivers.

I noticed that the R2500 has some similar features to AOR receivers. Both have an user configurable automode. This may make up for the lack of a 7.5 KHz step on the control head although I had fun trying to do a 7.5 KHz step bandplan for VHF on the AOR receiver. The problem is the 10KHz steps that occur in the bandplan. I find I use the 2.5 KHz steps when searching VHF.

I still have to setup the memory channels in the receiver. The ICOM software has a cloning feature that can move settings between the computer and radio. I can have different sets of memory files and upload to the radio or use on the computer.
