• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

At work we use Kenwoods which have been beat up pretty good but still seem to work although if we use them heavily we would need to get some newer batteries since they don't last as long.

I bring my own radio since I don't trust any of the work ones and have set it up with the frequency and tones that we use. It is also set to narrow band like the work radios.

What I don't get is that my boss keeps telling me to grab one of works radios since when I'm talking even on his radio when it's set to low volume my voice sounds very loud. Sometimes even unreadable it's so loud he says. Not sure what I could do to fix this. I had previously used my icom 4011 and had this same issue.

Are you using a speaker mic or talking directly into the radio? If so what is the make and model of the mic.

A few things to check. First, double check to make certain that it is in fact set to narrow. Secondly, check your mic gain in set mode. Turn it all the was down if it is set at 5, then try using it again.

That is correct, the channel should be selected to "N" on the main channel screen. You should be able to adjust mic gain. Go to the common screen and select "set mode". You should see some setting there and one of them should say mic gain. the range is 1 to 5 and I believe (if my memory doesn't fail me) default is set at 3. Try turning it down to 1, clone the radio and see if that helps. Also, try it with more than just one of the other radios to eliminate any radio issues they may have. Im more familliar with the 4011 series which you stated you've tried, and haven't run into any audio issues. They all sounded fine.
