If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Icom codeplug / .icf file - is alignment data held in a hidden file when upload .icf?

I have a VHF Icom IC-F5061/62 mobile which was running very early version 1.0 firmware.

I managed to corrupt the .icf file / eeprom which caused the radio to TX at boot up. I was also unable to read/write from the radio.

However, I recovered the radio by writing new v5.5 firmware. The F5061 now functions OK.

But I have noticed that the F5061 is a bit deaf on RX. I assume the eeprom corruption and firmware update has resulted in losing the alignment data and the radio is now using default alignment data? I have another F5061 (and other Icom radios) to compare the RX so I know that the deaf F5061 can perform better on RX. The deaf F5061 is about -5dBm less sensitive than the other radios.

Before I corrupted the F5061 eeprom, I had uploaded and saved the original codeplug/.icf file...BUT not the alignment data.

I'm wondering if the .icf file has a hidden partition which stores the alignment data? Can this alignment data be accessed using the "Maker Reserve" option?

I have read that.. "If you do not read your radio before entering Maker Reserve, and you then write to your radio, your radio will lose all of its tuning."

Maybe Maker Reserve needs to be enabled BEFORE the .icf file is read in order to save the tuning data in the .icf hidden partition???

When I initially read the radio, Maker Reserve was NOT enabled.

Hopefully, the alignment data is automatically saved in the hidden partition before enabling Maker Reserve.

Does updating the firmware always result in the alignment data being lost...so the official procedure is to always save the tuning data and then write it back after a firmware update?

What is the procedure for extracting alignment data from an identical radio? Does the identical radio need to be running the same firmware?

Any ideas?

Thanks
