i recently bought an ic-f50v and programmed it yesterday. the radio works well with the exception of 2 problems. no matter what i do i cannot get it to vibrate or do voice record. i have gone through every menu and read the help files and nothing works. i have it set to vibrate when turned on and vibrate when i get a 2 tone alert. the radio trips for the 2 tone alert but does not vibrate. i also set the p04 button to be playback/record and when i hold it down it does nothing. if i tap it it just lets out a beep letting me know thier are no saved voice messages. the radio is set up to record voice traffic on 2 tone as well which it also does not do.

i have a decent amount of knowledge in programming radios (mostly motorola) and was able to navigate my way through a great deal of the features in this radio. i know what the radio is soposed to do and was able to figure out most of the things i want even though the layout in programming is different.

i have checked off enable on every menu i could find in the radio related to these 2 features and nothing works.

i know with motorola radios you can enable almost everything and if you leave 1 thing in a menu out it won't work (lots of redundency) but i am really at a loss here. of course with motorola, if you leave somthing off and thier is a conflict, usually it will give you a warning message before you can send the codeplug to the radio and link you to the spot on cps you need to fix.

other than that issue, i really like this radio and am looking forward to getting this up and running fully.

thanks

I have this radio too. I would check the model number. I think the last numbers have to be 11 in order for it to vibrate and voice record. Also, call icom's tech support, they are pretty good.

The one thing that I don't like on this radio is that I can't figure out how to make the monitor key a "sticky" monitor, like you can on the motorola radio. I hope this helps.

the last 2 on mine are 11 and it is the c-f50 v ... the v means it is vibrate/voice

mine does do sticky monitor. i set up the moni button and if you hold the button down the moni icon comes on with a beep and you get a carrier sound. the icon stay on till you hit the button again.

What software are you using? There is different software for the f50 and f50v. Also, check the set mode screen and make sure that the vibration is turned to on. If you want to email me your codeplug, I can look at it. I am an amateur at this stuff, but I have spent hours on the Motorola and Icom software now. It took me a while to get the Icom to work similar to the way my Motorola HT1250 works.

My email address is hatzq68@aol.com.

Are you using Icom Rsss F50V version 3.1?

Do you hace the two-tone receive selected in the channel menu?

Then under two tone make sure both options are selected

Do you have a button set up for voice play back

i'm using f50v version 3.0 ( that's what they sent me when i bought the radio the other day). i have vibrate and voice record checked off in the 2 tone menu as well as in the channel menu. and the 2 tone trips like it should, just doesn't vibrate. i have it set up to vibrate when the radio turns on as well which it does not do either. i have a button assigned to to playback/rec also and i have vibrate and voice rec on and enabled in the set mode as well.

i wonder if it's the software?

i'm going to call icom right now and see.

thanks

i just called the icom tech support and they said my version of the f50v does not do either feature. my serial number starts with 01 and it has to have 02. the company is going to trade the radio out for me and send me newer programming software as well.

thanks

i'm using the f50v programming software. the issue is with the radio ... i called icom and they told me the model i have, even though it is a V, does not doe the vibrate or voice record. thier is a difference in the serial numbers for some reason ... if you look at the serial number, the first 2 digits of the ones that do vibrat/voice are 02, mine is a 01. i have shipped it back to the company i bought it from for a replacement with the right one.
