The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Is there a way to set up different 2 tone paging alert based on zone? What I would like to do is set Zone 1 for our county and monitoring North Fire-ground channels and alert for my department only, I am good with that (after much trial and error) but I would like to make Zone 2 monitor south fire-ground channels (obviously with dispatch) and alert for 3 departments one of which is mine. Is there a way to set this up? I would think it would require 2 different two tone paging profiles but I have not dug in to see if you can create 2 separate paging protocols.
Yes you can.

You'll need for the radio to be monitoring both dispatch talkgroups and use Sub-group setting for the applicable tone groups. It ain't easy to set up and will take trial and error.

While noting that others may suggest this isn't recommended, I've done this for a couple of years and am unaware of missing calls. Its due to operational necessity.

We are using the same P25 TRS. Bullitt County (mine) uses one site with its voice frequencies. My adjacent county, (Jefferson) which we do automatic mutual aid with, has its own site with a separate set of voice frequencies.

Then Bullitt County will have four alerting tone sets (fire station one, fire station two, EMS station one and an All Call). For Jefferson, I'm monitoring a station for fire alerting then an All Call.

Channel 1 in my G5 is set for dispatch. Then the remaining channels will monitoring voice/fireground channels.

This does work, as just a few hours ago my G5 alerted on one of those automatic mutual aid dispatches.

When I switch to zone 2 nothing happens. It puts a check mark next to zone 2 but stays on zone 1. What am I missing?

Are you hitting "select" after you put the check mark next to the zone? Even after about 6 months I sometimes still forget to do that.

The reason for asking is Scanning Multiple Frequencies/Talkgroups and 2 Tone Paging is not recommended due to the timing issues you are having trouble with as calls will be missed. The only Multiple 2 Tones Codes that work 100% are ones on the same frequency/Talkgroup.
If you are trying to get alerts on several different Frequencies/Talkgroups/Systems you are going to not get alerts often.
