Has anyone used one of these yet? What can someone expect to see on wireless CCTV cams?

" Great video receiver Time owned: 0 to 3 months
After reading so many reports about the R3 I had to have one. HRO had a special for $349 and I drove from Baltimore to New Castle to get one. I had already received some very interesting video from various directions using an MDS converter and TV and thought the R3 would be excellent since it is so small. There is a State airport less thn 2 miles away and they also use it for military testing. Using the R3 on the 2.3GHZ band I am able to receive some sort of aircraft control panel, gauges and all and evidently they are testing some sort of aircraft controllers.
Also, when using a small yagi antenna pointed towards the City, a channel came up with someone doing surgery eveidently from John Hopkins hospital.
This receiver is very sensitive and will do the job for ATV, AM and FM."

I agree....I work at an airport/ AFB, and I have never gotten any hits on CCTV with my R3.

How about some tips?

I found an IC-R3 on ebay at the right price, I should receive it next week.

Is there a certain type of antenna I should use to maxmize the chances of receiving cctv?

I could have swore that it covered up to 2.4 GHz, but specifies to 1 GHz. There may be another one thats does go to 2.4 GHz. I don't have one of these and I want to purchase one for the digital.

I use mine all the time with several CCD camera's at 900 MHz-2.4 Ghz including one that transmits at 1.2 Ghz. The receiver is alright, but an amp would be beneficial.

As far as an antenna. Do you mean for portable use? The stock antenna works well. I don't think a stubby 800 MHz or some other type would make much of a difference.

If you connect it to an outside antenna like an yagi, you should be able to pick up a lot of camera stuff. Like baby monitors.
