I see a couple of decent looking units have made it to Ebay for realistic prices, I'd like nothing more then to grab one but I heard that they actually don't scan all 1000 channels at one time, as a default they only scan any one bank of 40 channels which rots, none of the sales or instructional material seems to mention that issue, however I once read somewhere that you can trick it to scan all 1000 channels by pushing certain front panel buttons in a certain sequence, can anybody here confirm or deny that? I've searched the internet high & low & nothing comes up, I figured an ICOM R-8500 Product Reviews reviewer would mention it but not one peep about what I feel is a significant shortcoming.

The "BANK" button toggles between scanning one memory bank or all memory banks, so scanning all memory channels in all banks at once in the R8500 is certainly possible.

The banks are also not locked to 40 channels. You can increase or decrease the number of channels you want in the banks.

You will not be pleased with the scan speed either, the R8500 is a communications receiver that can scan. If you need more then get a newer trunking digital scanner.

The R7100A with the twin scan windows could do interesting things like searching and scanning memories using different timing parameters and memory loading searches.
