To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi All,
I'm really struggling to find out how to connect the OPC-478UC cable to my VHF.
I'm understand that that is all I should need for programming the radio. I see that the orange and grey wires on the back of the VHF are the data lines but how do I connect them all together.
I have the correct software and have programmed handhelds before but I can't find any further info to help.

Thanks in advance

I've programmed some of my Icom marine radios, so maybe I'll be able to help.
Does it have 4 pin connector consisting of

black
blue
grey
orange

wires in that order?

Sounds good. You have to cobble together some sort of adapter that connects OPC-478UC and that 4 pin connector on the back of IC-M330G this way.
(I hope you know that there are two versions of original Icom OPC-478UC cables. Older ones only work up to Win 7. With clones it is a bit of hit and miss)

I use this type of adapter when I need to connect to Icoms that have odd connectors (like IC-M422 etc.).
