I was wondering about those Icom modems that can be hooked up to the computer.

Both of my Unidens, the BCT15 and the BR330T make get interference from so many little things, like CRT monitors any interfere with the 33.x range of my local fire departments, my Linksys routers/switches screw up the fire departments and some EMS, etc, so do the PCRs have some kind of shielding that prevents them from getting interference, I mean if they are made to work from a computer, they have to obviously be more prone to interference then even a non-computer controller scanner. I mean, I doubt they expect you to use a 50ft+ usb cable to hook it up to your PC and operate it from a distant, LoL.

PCR-1000
30 ft of low-quality RS-232 cable connecting it to a computer
8 computers in the room
4 monitors in the room
DSL modem
about a dozen radios

Absolutely NO interference with the PCR-1000

Grounding is a must.I did have a problem a long time ago and it was mostly my fault for making up a crappy cable and I had a leakage problem where some of the rf emitted by my monitor was causing some problems. My PCR1000 is right above my monitor about 18 inches and since I have used good coax cable I dont experience any interference from any electronics in my house.
Now for the antenna issue I have my antennas mounted up on a tower at 30 feet or higher.

My PCR-1000 was never really bothered by interference that got into the radio itself. It seemed to be shielded quite well. I've had to replace bad cable or connectors and do a little bit of work to prevent stray RFI from getting in that way occasionally but the radio itself was fine from what I observed.

Like anything else it helps to keep it away a few feet away from RF spewing junk like routers CRTs and other known stuff in your shack which causes problems. A couple of my radios were really bad about spewing RFI so I kept them away from other radios or positioned them accordingly. My AR-5000+3 for instance emitted really bad RFI but only through the front panel. If you kept radios with plastic cases and any antenna connections away from the front of the AOR then there was no problem.

No problem

My pcr-2500 is mounted inside a computer and there is no discernable interference. The way it is mounted it makes a rather tidy monitoring station.
