Does anybody have the computer control software for this radio. I have the radio and a cable that I think will work, I just need the software. The radio is the ICOM R-1

I don't recall the Icom IC-R1 ever having the ability to be computer programmed, or controlled. I never saw any software for it.

I have had an R1 for many years and never yeard of any type of computer control or programming. With all the features of this little baby it would have been nice.

Icom R1 BNC Connector; Computer Controlled

My iCOM R1 worked great until the BNC connector for the antenna broke internally in the unit. I think it was a weak point in the radio.

I am not sure how the unit would be connected to the computer, there is no data out.

I broke the lacking tab for the battery. I had bought an extra battery and somehow when changing batteries I broke it. The radio still works fine and I love the size and all the features but it was the last radio that I ever buy that does not use common replaceable batteries!

I got this one because the batteries were the same size as my iCOM W2A and used all the same chargers and stuff. But I was very disappointed in the batteries, too. I broke at least four of them.

It was because the rails on the battery were plastic and the rails the battery slid into on the radio were metal. One drop or hard bump and the battery rail or rails broke. ICOM learned their lesson, though, and did not make any batteries like that any more.

One cool think about the R1 is that it doesn't need a battery to operate it...it has that build in internal battery thing and a cap to put in place of the external battery. Not much of a listening time, but cool idea. Plus the .1MHz - 1.2GHz continuous coverage and its relativlely small size.

do you still have it? i ran into that same problem with my icom R1 years ago and after seeing how small it was inside i came up with another another remedy, i pushed a straight pin into the connector alongside the center pin and then cut it off to the same height as the center pin, soldered it by capillary action from the outside in and believe it of not it worked. later i did the same thing with an icom R10 which i still have.

I still have the R1 and W2A, but don't use them anymore. Especially now that I got my new Uniden BCD-396T. But I guess I would use it to get a frequency not covered by the 396. Before I got the 396, I usually used my IC PCR-1000 at home and my Bearcat BCT-7 on the road.

I am not sure what you mean about the "straight pin" and "center pin." Did you have to open up the unit to do this?

Maybe some day, ICOM will pull their heads out and make a "scanner" that does trunktracking and APCO-25.

Anyway, thanks for the advice.
