What’s the front end like on the R6?
I have a Uniden 125 and I’m having major issues with front end overload due to a powerful frequency from a nearby transmitter that’s right in the middle of the air band that I listen to.
if the R6 handles overload better then it might be an option for me.

What frequency is the nearby transmitter? Have you considered trying to filter it out before it gets to the radio?

I have both the 125AT and R6. Both exhibit overload issues in my area due to nearby pager systems, NOAA, 2M repeaters, etc. I can't say I notice much of a difference between them in terms of overload.

It’s 125.725. Any filter would take out too many frequencies either side.
I was hoping to find a scanner with a better front end instead.

Understood. Have you tried a step attenuator between the antenna and radio just to see what happens. There may be a setting at which the overload is mitigated and the intended signals can still be received. Of course this will impact weak signal detection.

I cannot comment as to the resilience to overload in the airband between the 125 and R6. I would venture to guess the R6 would not be appreciably different than the 125.

I’ve tried a variable attenuator. That fixes the issue but it reduces the distance that I can pick up signals from. I don’t have issues with milair so I also don’t want to attenuate that if I can help it.

How much attenuation did you have to dial in to fix the issue. A little or a lot.

I found the R6 has more "issues" than the 125, mostly with overload from near-by TX sites.
