I just purchased a Sangean ATS-909 shortwave receiver. I am impressed with the reception with just using the whip antenna. I haven't even tried an external antenna, yet. I purchased the ATS-909 for the purpose of listening to HF while I am on the road traveling with my job.

I'm looking to purchase a good desktop HF receiver. What kind of performance can I expect from the R-75 on HF compared to a portable shortwave receiver such as the ATS-909? Thanks.

A portable HF receiver is not going to have half the controls you might need to get rid of electricity noise, etc. The IC-R75 has a decent noise blanker, DSP adjustable Noise Reduction, ANL for heterodyne, and twin passband tuning for those crowded ham bands. For the money, the R75 is pretty damned good, and comes with the UT-106 DSP unit.
