Ok, so I just acquired a Icom ID-51 and have been trying to learn the D-Star system. I tried to program the radio using RT Systems software, but every time it finishes the program mode, it shows an ERROR on the radios display screen. What am I doing wrong or what am I missing?

Based on what you have given us, it's kind of hard to even guess what might be amiss. You might try posting a copy of your Icom ID-51A's program file for us to look at. You might also post a video of you loading the HT so we can see exactly when the "ERROR" appears on the radio screen. What happens when you turn the radio off and back on again? Does "ERROR" appear again and, if so, when? Etc. Details, details, details...

@petty4305, Hmmm... Where does Icom hide the programming software for the radio? I wanted to make a simple D-STAR file for you to load to see if you got an "ERROR" message. Also, I can't read your file without the program. And Icom wonders why I stopped buying Icom and recommending Icom...

Post the file so I can take a look at what you are trying to do.

Also, there are several versions of the ID-51, which one do you have? Probably doesn't make a difference in this context, but it might.

Run RTUpdate to make sure you have the latest version of software.

Hey guys, Thank you for the quick responses. I am using the RT Systems programming software and my radio model is the ID-51A. @K4EET the ERROR appears as the Send To Radio finishes. Once I turn the radio off and back on, the ERROR disappears and the radio does an ALL RESET.

Two things come to mind, but not by experience directly. Read the radio then load your data into that read then write that first read with your new data to radio. It's possible you have a RTS version for a different model of that radio. If so I'm sure RTS support will get you setup correct.
Good Luck!

P.S. I just checked the RTS site and the software WCS-51 is reported to have different model version in the software. Check the label under the battery for your specific model. Checking mine, it's a ID-51A with a 2nd line of PLUS2. As I recall the PLUS2 added features that likely are not compatible with earlier models. Likely outcome is to crash the data transfer at the end.

That error is meaningless. Just that something is wrong.

There may be an error in your programming.
There may be a software mismatch causing the error.

1. Did you run RTupdate? RT Systems often causes errors on equipment if newer firmware is on the radio and an older version of RT tries to program it.

2. What version of RT software are you running? Go to help, then about what does it say there? e.g., ID-51 Plus 2 Programmer.

3. Take off the battery, what does that label say for model number? ID-51A and right under that Plus 2?

4. Did you try the free Icom software I linked to?

I use this equipment and software frequently. None of it works with the wrong versions.

Ok, I called RT Systems and then realized I was using the wrong version of the programming software. It works now. Thanks for the responses...
I find RT to be very helpful. One time long ago I complained about an issue with the SW for the Yaesu FT-3000 and they quickly fixed it.
