Seems the bandwidth limit has been exceeded for the links to the ID tracker software. Time for better hosting maybe?
anyone else know where we can download this from???

Yes, you'll need that for the recording ability of the software. You will also need a serial port connection from your scanner to your PC. The BC245 and I think the 296 come with their own cable; if memory serves, a standard DB9 cable will work for most of the other Unidens. I'm not sure about what the 2052 (for which the software has limited support) needs, tho. 73s Mike

Bummer. Are there any similar programs that are compatible with a PRO-96?
Not exactly, but the Pro-96 will provide Trunker like information on APCO-25 systems using the Pro96Com software.

Sorry no, only with scanners that have the DB9 output.

Actually it would be more correct to say that GRE made RS scanners cannot be computer controlled; they only support up/download. The type of connector being used has no bearing on what the scanner can/cannot support; this is a firmware thing.

Actually if the scanner Swenassoc ask about (Pro-96) had the RS232 DB9 connector, don't you thinik the question would mute?

Nope Frank not at all. The type of connector used on a radio is not necessarily an indicator of whether it can be controlled or not. Since GRE doesn't do this allow me to point out a couple of obvious candidates that don't use a DB9 but can be controlled - the BC895 (which only uses 3 out of a 5 pin Molex type connector) and the 245 (which has an odd edge connector with a cable that, yes, does terminate in a DB9) are 2 obvious examples.
More current radios include a R20, which if memory serves me, use part of an earphone jack that you need to split off for the audio and control signals - yet Ham Radio Deluxe can use it.
What is important is how the firmware addresses the output port, not its mere existance.

Does this program only work on the digital side or does it record freqs, pl/dcs also? Guess what I'm asking is - Is the program kind of like ARC250 or is it primarily for logging new digital freqs and talk groups?

Not exactly. It doesn't support virtual control like ARC250 does, and doesn't log things like PLs - however, it can log talkgroup usage (both analog and digital) as well as conventional frequency usage.
It also can record audio.
I'd take a look at the page given in the first message. It's pretty clear on what it can do. Many folks - myself included - like the fact that it's a small app that doesn't gobble a lot of resources, yet does basic logging and audio recording. It's free, too. Except for the PRO2052 (which it only supports in a limited fashion), it support many Uniden scanners. GRE scanners cannot be addressed in this way.
