The news reports two fools from Oregon were arrested in LA for posing as firefighters, using a fire truck purchased at an auction with a few lengths of fire hose, fiberglass ladder ( LOL) and an outdated scanner that’s not capable of listing to any fire comms in the LA area and kenwood portables.

talk about idiots…..View attachment 176774
I am curious. How long did they operate before someone figured it out?

You might be surprised to know that I found a surprisingly number of firefighters I encountered working in TDCJ. I recall reading about a professor associated with the A&M fire school who got busted for arson quite a few years back. The details of such escape me without the articles in front of me.

Most of what I saw on the travel cards was associated with volunteer fire fighters being charged with arson.

UPDATE

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — The Oregon couple who allegedly tried to sneak into a Palisades Fire evacuation zone while impersonating firefighters are facing charges and potential jail time, according to prosecutors.

Dustin Nehl, 31, and Jennifer Nehl, 44, were each arraigned on Wednesday on one misdemeanor charge each, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman, who announced the charges on Friday. They were charged with fraudulent impersonation of a specific fire personnel, unauthorized activities with respect to badges or related matter, and false representation.

Deputies with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department detained the couple on Jan. 18 when they tried to enter an evacuation zone in Malibu with a fake fire engine, according to authorities. They were allegedly wearing fake firefighter gear, including Cal Fire shirts, during the encounter...

...Dustin is being held in jail on $30,000 bail. Jennifer was released due to her lack of a criminal history, the DA’s Office said.

They’re each scheduled for pre-trial hearing on Feb. 11 at the Van Nuys West Courthouse. If convicted, they can face up to 180 days in county jail.

well, one was 31 and the other was 44.

probably a record for the longest living fake wildlands firefighting team.

Most die much younger. They must have been good at what they do.

What I meant was how long were they working before someone figured it out, particularly with the craziness running amok.
I betcha the convicts who help fight fires are better behaved.

I think they were stopped at one of the check points that was set up before entering the area. Someone sensed the whack and raised the alarm before they were allowed in.

You're joking, aren't you.

Anyway, posing as a firefighter certainly isn't harmless. Someone once described firefighting as easy. "You put water on it 'til the fire's out or 'til you run out of water." If only it was that simple. There's a science and technique to it and not doing things the proper way can further endanger life and property.
Posing as a First Responder is harmless. Nah, posing as a First Responder is dangerous, because it adds more complications to what an imperfect system is already. We have folks out there who really don't trust their municipalities, and when you have knuckle heads like those out in LA or anywhere, it just adds more distrust.

What I found interesting was his prior arrest for arson. Maybe pretending to be a fireman is his way of trying to make up for past bad deeds

"Dustin Nehl has a criminal history in Oregon for criminal mischief and arson..."

You've got it backwards. Many arsonists are wannabe firemen who couldn't get on the job for one reason or another. Unfortunately here in the northeast it's easy for those types to join the ranks of the volunteers if they have no criminal history, and sometimes it's too late before you realize what type of person one of those members really is. Best case scenario is that their obsession with fire is satisfied by them responding to fires and actually making a positive difference. Of course the worst case scenario is that they actually start fires so they can respond and be a "hero".

This guy is a POS no matter how you cut it, however that said, I would never wish harm on such an individual as at least one member posting in this thread has eluded to twice.
