I read the "Easier to read manual" learned how to turn it on. How is this done with freescan or arc15? And does it stay on or is this just a brief function that stops after you continue to scan? In other words do you have to sit on that channel to have the function working? I'm trying to find out if this like att or delay? Should it be a check box on the programming software?

ARC15 doesn't support the 15X scanner...

There is a screen for this in FreeScan under Scanner/Setup Scanner Options then click the Frequencies tab as shown here; unfortunately there isn't any text in the wiki to show how to use it...

FreeScan Frequencies- the RR Wiki

best regards..Mike

IFX function

Thanks for the info. I didn't know arc15 won't work the 15x til now, I've been using freescan. Still not sure about the IFX, I'm applying it to some of my freqs that I often hear only buzz and fuzz. I still wish it was a check box option in Freescan instead of having to manually enter them again to the global IFX list. Thanks Again for the info.

All you have to do is press "Func" and the "IFX" button on the scanner and it switches the "IF".. About 10 miliseconds by hand!!

Ifx

I understand but it's not a global on/off setting for every freq in your scanner. You'd have to do that hold/funct/IFX for every one. Takes longer don't you think? Or maybe I don't fully understand the reason for the IFX? Eliminate birdies right? So I should have that on for all my freqs? Conventionals anyway.

There's really no reason to have them on for every frequency. Only those where there's birdies - which is the whole point of the option, I think. Every scanner has them to some degree, no matter how good.

Maybe we should define a birdie. In my mind a birdie is when the scanner stops and produces audio with no signal required. I remember searching for them when my 396XT was new. I searched the entire range of frequencies the scanner covered without an antenna attached and I only found a couple. I don't think the IFX is for fixing these anyway.

Intermediate Frequency Exchange - changes the IF used for a selected frequency to help avoid images and other mixer-product interference on a frequency.

You might have one or two cases of this. More likely none. You certainly don't need it on every channel.
