Got the dreaded "illegal voltage" error on my new HP2. Going to try a new ac adapter. Can anyone recommend one that they have had success with? I picked up a 5$ one on Amazon, and I want to see it that's the culprit, as opposed to a scanner issue.
Thanks!

"Illegal Voltage" can refer to a bad battery. Have you tried a different set of batteries?

I cannot speak for the HP2, but if I plugged in a charger with the wrong voltage on my 396, I would get that error.

I haven't, but the error occurs when it's plugged in to the AC, I ran it for a couple of days on the batteries, and all was OK. The error came up when the unit was plugged in overnight, and off. I reset it, and the error went away, but came back a few minutes later. I did run it on the ac adapter for a few hours yesterday, and it worked OK. It's a cheapie adapter, so maybe that's the culprit.

From what I've seen, it's been caused by a battery with too high of internal resistance. As it nears full charge, the battery voltage rises above the normal range, and triggers the error. If you turn off charging, the battery voltage will drop, but it will ramp back up when charging resumes.

If it was the adapter, getting the error would probably be very consistent--it would show up as soon as you plugged it in.

Sounds plausible, I'll try another set of batteries. They are the ones that came with the HP2, so they are new, but doesn't mean there isn't a problem with them.

The unit was just sitting idle though overnight, plugged in but not charging, and when I came in and saw it in the morning, the error screen was showing. I suppose I could try it with the batteries removed, and use the adapter and see what happens.
