It pays to think about something before you post it. Knee-jerk reactions can sometimes come back to haunt you. And, read it before you post it. Your mind works different when reading rather than composing and you can see more clearly that what you wrote was what you intended to say. After 30 minutes or so, it's chiseled in stone, so to speak.

Well I tried to apologize to people it was an accident. I was in a mindset with racing thoughts & none of my usual lifelines to stop me from myself. It happens sometimes. I think most of us understand that. When I have a lot that is on my mind, I'll often type it up in a notepad or other editor to make sure I get my thoughts together. I did that for my response to you yesterday.

Don't erase your account. As others have said, no need to apologize either. You didn't do anything wrong. Starting over serves no purpose - you've already asked a number of questions and gotten helpful replies.

You're off to a good start. Stick around, ask more questions and most of all, have fun with the hobby. It's a good group of friendly, knowledgeable folks here.

I assumed that you are in Manchester Township, NJ / Ocean County based on your looking to program "Parkway/Turnpike/lifeguards" etc, which I took to mean the NJ Turnpike / Garden State Parkway

Here is the link to the database for Ocean County, NJ. The PRO-23 scanner you mentioned in another post will only be able to receive frequencies marked "FMN" in the database, as it is not capable of digital modes like P25 or DMR. These frequencies are also in the receive range of your Baofeng 5RM.

Your local police in Manchester Township are P25, but the FD and EMS are analog FMN:

The PRO-23 also has a search feature you could utilize. Search small segments of each band to see what you can hear (example 155.000 - 156.000 MHz, 460.000 - 461.000 MHz)

I found some frequencies for lifeguards / beach patrols you can try. These will be handhelds / low power, so you might not be able to hear them from your location.

In the channel information. 1 thing i dont understand is what DPL means (i have read the meaning of DPL but do not remember when or where i read it & did not write it down along with all other notes i am keeping to refer to later) I know what PL is. That's the ctcss tone setting. DPL has me confused. I dont know what im supose to program in my radio for Dpl and whatever # comes next to it. I assume its a digital freq & the DPL IS THE ID# to use while in a certain freq. To be able to hear that talkgroup. Just not sure if im correct nor sure how to enter the info. In what settings do I add what info in order to listen. I hope this question came out more understandable.

To receive you do NOT need any tone squelch, or DPL. Just the frequency will get it to where you can receive. In some areas, multiple departments might be on the same frequency but using different "CTCSS tones or DPL but, sometimes in a general listening mode, I'd prefer to hear anything on a given frequency. Up to you but I wouldn't worry much about that in the listening category, you'd only need that to key up the other radios on that department. Others may argue about selectivity but, the bottom line is you do NOT need that CTCSS tone or DPL (DCS) to receive what's coming out on that frequency.

The OP is stuck at home and on a limited budget. Sure, this is not letter of the law legal. However, as a practical matter, do you think anyone is going to notice if he uses non-type accepted radios on FRS with 1/2 watt of power? I was trying to be practical based on the parameters the OP provided and the equipment he already owns, not send him off on a shopping spree for new radios + GMRS license fees for himself and his friend.

"Not letter of the law legal" is illegal.
