• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Do any of these import DMR radios like the CS750 or Tytera MD-380 offer voice privacy at least comparable to MotoTRBO Enhanced Privacy (40 bit) or ADP, preferably a little stronger?

I know the CS700's I have only offer Basic Privacy which is a 4 hexadecimal key. So I'm guessing it is 16 bit software (non cryptographic) scrambling with 65,536 keys. I guess that will keep most people out, but I bet there's a few on this board that could figure the key out. It also appears each vendor has their own privacy/encryption schemes (ex-CS700 Basic Privacy not comparable with Motorola Basic Privacy etc)

I'm looking for an option without spending a lot of money as we will buy these radios with our own money. The radios will be used for surveillance off- network our normal unencrypted digital system.

Import DMR looks to be the best bet so far (cost wise).

If I can't find a good DMR option, I could refurb our old LPE-200 radios. They have AEGIS and have the VGE key still loaded (infinite key retention) and can be used on the ITAC channels. But all batteries and chargers need to be replaced and I have no key loader or way to disable a lost radio, etc.

Any suggestions?

Update: Just got an answer from CS Inc. They are working on adding AES to the CS750 radio.
Good encryption looks like it is finally coming to entry level DMR radios.

I know you posted this two months ago Ray, but the Tytera MD-380 with firmware updates now has enhanced encryption which is 128 bit. I am sure soon enough it will be 256 bit as well given in due time!!

Yep. Hadn't discovered the 380 at the time I originally posted this.

I decided to download the md-380 CPS and was shocked to see that it took 32 digit hexadecimal keys for "Enhanced".
