Yup I found what the OP posted is 100% true, the hard way. New to GMRS I was able to use a repeater about 10 miles away, but there are other repeaters scattered about 30+ miles away couldn’t do it. So I built and turned and eight element beam. At that point, I had 50 foot of RG 8X. I could hit them at that point. I wanted better coax. Logical next step 50 foot of LMR 400. Needless to say perfect match turned into a nightmare. But it is all good now just learned the hard way.
